Vincenzo Verzeni, il Vampiro della Bergamasca, è stato il primo serial killer italiano riconosciuto. Intorno al 1870, nella campagna bergamasca, Verzeni ha brutalmente ucciso due donne e tentato di strangolarne altre sei, compresa la cugina Marianna. Il suo modus operandi, simile a quello che avrebbe reso celebre quindici anni più tardi Jack lo squartatore, comprendeva strangolamento e asportazione di parti del corpo. Le sue parafilie includono il piquerismo, la necrofilia ed il cannibalismo.
Il caso di Verzeni fu studiato dal fondatore della criminologia Cesare Lombroso.

Vincenzo Verzeni, the Vampire of Bergamo, was the first Italian serial killer. Around 1870, in the Bergamo countryside, Verzeni brutally killed two women and attempted to strangle another six, including his cousin Marianna. His modus operandi, similar to what would have made Jack the Ripper fifteen years later, included strangulation and removal of body's parts. His paraphilias include piquism, necrophilia and cannibalism.
The case of Verzeni was studied by the founder of criminology Cesare Lombroso.
